![]() ![]() Honda still offers the minivan in five flavors, but out of the lineup is model-year 2022’s cheapest trim level, and added in the middle is a sportier, blacked-out Sport trim level. Honda’s Odyssey family hauler rolls into 2023 largely unchanged from 2022, but with a shuffled lineup. The 2023 model otherwise carries over, though with a new complimentary maintenance plan and a new trim level with black wheels. Which should you buy, 2022 or 2023? A cheaper 2022 if you can find one - and that’s the only choice if you want an LX budget trim. The other three surviving trim levels are up $850 each at this point, including an across-the-board $150 price increase since the 2023 went on sale. Pricing: The least expensive 2023 Odyssey now is the EX, which starts at $38,785 (all prices include destination) that’s $4,450 more than the discontinued, outgoing base LX and $1,050 more than the 2022 EX. The 2023 Odyssey, like other 2023 Honda vehicles, also now comes with two years of free scheduled maintenance. Meanwhile, a new mid-level Sport trim - basically a second-tier EX-L with a black appearance package and interior - has been added to the lineup. That's because the hybrid powertrain adds some extra weight.Most significant changes: The Odyssey’s base LX trim is dropped for 2023, making the new entry trim level the more expensive EX. The Toyota Sienna is the bulkiest minivan in this segment. The Chrysler Pacifica has a wider wheelbase but it lacks a bit of legroom in the third row. This doesn't serve its purpose for off-road venturing. The Kia Carnival's ground clearance is too high for a minivan. At 205.3 inches, the Odyssey is the longest minivan in this segment. These wheels keep this minivan 4.5 inches above the ground. The wheel options for the Odyssey are 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels. The Odyssey’s new contemporary designed tail lights give a striking appearance to its back. Power sliding doors are available on higher trims that can be operated from a key fob. You can flip and tumble the third-row seat down to reveal 92.3 cu-ft. Power open the tailgate and behind the third-row seats, you'll find 38.6 cu-ft. The Odyssey supplies a whole bunch of room for cargo. The lack of a tuning knob is a source of frustration. A rear-seat entertainment system is standard on top trims and it includes a 10.2-inch screen, a Blu-ray disc player, and two pairs of wireless headphones. The screen is on the small side and the voice recognition system doesn't respond to natural commands. Next-gen Honda CR-V spied testing in GermanyĮvery Odyssey for the LX trim comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display that features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Else, among these three gas-fed competitors, the Odyssey is a good choice. In short, if your main priority is fuel economy, go ahead with the Sienna. The MPG figures of the Chrysler Pacifica are identical to the Odyssey while the Kia Carnival is slightly less efficient. The Toyota Sienna displays mind-blowing fuel economy, all thanks to its standard hybrid powertrain. Unlike its rivals, the Odyssey is not available with a hybrid powertrain for a better fuel economy but its efficiency isn't bad either. Those who spend a lot of time on the highways, get 546 miles of range while the city range is limited to 371 miles. The Odyssey gets a decent fuel tank of 19.5 gallons, which is big enough to deliver a combined range of 429 miles. What should we expect from the next-gen 2023 Honda HR-V? The Kia Carnival's acceleration isn't that impressive despite weighing less than the Odyssey. The heavy curb weight of the Chrysler Pacifica pushes it behind the Sienna. It may not be as quick as the Odyssey but it is highly fuel-efficient. The Toyota Sienna is the odd one out here as it comes standard with a hybrid powertrain. With the help of these strong brakes, the Odyssey managed to stop within 125 feet from 60 MPH. The brakes fade a bit on repeated use but they are quite responsive. Honda has equipped the Odyssey with an excellent braking system. For a 4,398-pound minivan, these stats are really good. ![]() The Odyssey’s powerful V6 engine helps it to achieve the 0-60 MPH mark in 6.5 seconds and the quarter-mile mark in 15.1 seconds.
